Find the reason your program may look thin, empty, or unfinished.
What You Will Learn | |
Learn five clear signs that can make your skating look empty on the ice, even if you are landing jumps and spins. |
Sometimes a program can look empty or unfinished even when the skater is working hard and landing elements. This often happens when the moments between elements look like you are just moving to the next place, when the body shape does not change enough, or when the performance seems to stop and restart.
Here are five things to check in your video.
You are only traveling to the next element.
The time between jumps and spins looks like you are just moving toward the next element.
It does not look like the performance is still continuing.
Your skating looks the same for too long.
You keep skating in the same direction, at the same speed, with the same body shape.
When nothing changes for too long, the program can look flat.
The music changes, but your movement does not.
The music becomes louder, softer, faster, slower, or more exciting, but the size or quality of your movement stays almost the same.
When the music changes, something in your skating should change too.
Your performance stops after a jump or spin.
After a jump or spin, your arms drop, your focus goes down, or your body looks like the program has stopped for a moment.
Even after a successful element, the performance should keep going.
You use only one part of the rink.
Your program stays mostly in the center, on one side, or in the same area of the rink.
When too much of the ice is left empty, the whole program can look smaller.
