7. Does Your Skating Fall Apart Before and After Elements?

Skating Skills

Skating Skills are not judged only between elements.

The quality of skating also matters before and after jumps, spins, step sequences, and choreographic sequences.

Many skaters lose skating quality before a jump. They may become stiff, slow down too much, change posture, or add extra pushes.

After a jump, the landing should not look like the end of the skating. The flow should continue into the next movement.

Good Skating Skills stay visible before, during, and after technical elements.

What You Will Learn

  • why Skating Skills matter before and after elements

  • how jump preparation can weaken skating quality

  • why flow after landing is important

  • why skating quality should be kept through the whole program, not only between elements

Good example
  • The skater keeps good speed and balance before the jump.

  • The jump entry does not look tense or disconnected.

  • After landing, the flow continues into the next movement.

  • The element looks like part of the skating, not a stop in the program.

Poor example
  • The skater uses too many extra pushes before or after a jump.

  • The body becomes stiff, and the skating quality disappears.

  • After landing, the skater stops or loses control.

  • After landing, the skater pushes with the toe pick to force the skating to continue.

  • The element may be successful, but the skating before and after it looks weak.

✍️ Summary

Good Skating Skills continue before and after elements. The skating should not fall apart just because a technical element is coming.
