Does the Movement Have Change?
Change in movement is also important in Presentation.
Music is not the same from beginning to end. It may become faster, stronger, quieter, lighter, or heavier.
The force, speed, size, angle, and shape of the movement should change with the music.
If the skater uses the same size, the same speed, and the same arm movement throughout the program, the performance can look flat even when the music changes.
What You Will Learn | |
In this section, you will learn about variety and contrast of movement:
|
✅ Good example
When the music becomes stronger, the movement also becomes stronger and larger.
In quiet music, the movement becomes careful and soft.
The size, speed, strength, and shape of the movement change naturally with the music.
The skater does not repeat the same arm movement, but shows changes in shape, angle, and speed.
❌ Poor example
The music changes, but the strength and size of the movement do not change.
The skater performs with the same energy from beginning to end.
The arms and upper body always look the same.
There is no contrast in the movement, so the performance looks monotonous.
✍️ Summary
Good Presentation includes change in movement. When the music changes, the way the body is used should also change.
