One of the most important parts of Presentation is that the movement looks connected to the music.
Music has speed, strength, rhythm, melody, accents, quietness, and high points.
In good Presentation, the skater’s movement responds to those qualities.
It is not enough for the music to play in the background.
When the music becomes stronger, the movement should also show strength.
When the music becomes quiet, the movement should show softness, breath, or after-feeling.
When the music has an accent, some part of the body should catch that accent.
That is what it means for skating to be connected to the music.
What You Will Learn | |
In this section, you will learn how to recognize musical connection:
|
✅ Good example
The body movement becomes larger when the music builds.
The head, arms, upper body, or feet clearly catch the musical accent.
Even while preparing for a jump, the skater continues to move in a way that matches the character of the music.
The ending of a spin or step sequence matches the end of a musical phrase.
❌ Poor example
During jump preparation, the skater only skates into the element with no relationship to the music.
The music changes clearly, but the movement does not change.
There is a musical accent, but the body does not respond to it.
The skater disconnects from the music for a long time before a technical element.
✍️ Summary
Being connected to the music does not mean simply hearing the music. It means the changes in the music are visible in the movement of the body.
