What Is Good Presentation?
Good Presentation is not a flashy performance. It is not a performance with big facial expressions. It is not a program filled with difficult choreography. Good Presentation means that the music, composition, body, emotion, and timing look connected within the performance of that day. The skater understands the music. The skater responds to that music through the body. The skater delivers the atmosphere of the program as their own performance. That is Presentation.
What You Will Learn | |
To review, Presentation includes: • how the program is performed • connection to the music • expression through the whole body • changes in movement and timing • continued expression before and after technical elements • for parents, watching the connection between music and body rather than only the face |
✅ Good example
• The movement matches the musical phrases, strength, and accents. • The atmosphere and character of the program are visible through the whole body. • The size, speed, strength, and shape of the movement change. • The connection to the music continues before and after jumps and spins. • The program looks like the skater’s own performance.
❌ Poor example
• The music feels like background music, with weak connection to the movement. • The skater acts only with the face, while the body does not express the music. • The strength and size of the movement stay the same from beginning to end. • The skater disconnects from the music for a long time during technical preparation. • The skater looks as if they are only doing the choreography in order.
✍️ Summary
Good Presentation is not “acting with the face.”
It is a performance where the skater brings the music and composition to life through the whole body.
